Dot Anderson
Born and raised in Gift Lake Metis Settlement, Dot Anderson moved to the capital region in 1999, settling in St. Albert in 2008.
Intent to support community development in the Metis Settlements, Dot had a meaningful career with Metis Settlements General Council, where she held roles as a Receptionist, Tripartite Negotiations Officer, Assistant to the President, and Projects Coordinator. She was also MSGC’s Elected Secretary for two terms, during which she and her team achieved several goals under her socio-economic portfolio.
Dot has also been a Project Manager at NAIT, a coordinator at the University of Alberta, a twice-appointed member with Metis Settlements Appeals Tribunal, and is presently on leave from her role as a Senior Advisor with Alberta Health Services. Dot also volunteers in her own time. She serves as a board of governor with Homeward Trust, a member-at-large with NDP Lesser Slave Lake, an executive member with Northern Roots Child and Family Wellness, and a Co-Chair with the Metis Settlements Child Welfare Task Force.
Recognizing that economies thrive when societies thrive, Dot’s work has focused on breaking down barriers to employment, housing, training, health, education, and justice. It is for that work that she was recognized with an Esquao (Woman) Award in 2022 and the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
When she is not working, assisting with her favourite causes, or supporting her children’s activities in and around Greater Edmonton, Dot can be found in Gift Lake visiting her huge family and enjoying her much loved Metis way of life.
